"Now, don't you forget a hard frost on the glasses." - Julie

A mint julep isn't just for Derby Day. It's one the oldest and therefore best cocktails. Because it's such a simple drink, good Bourbon and technique are important. Crushed ice is essential to get that hard frost.

Mint Julep

2½ Good Bourbon

½ Simple Syrup (see Housemade Syrups)

4-5 sprigs worth of mint leaves

1 full mint spring for garnish

Place mint leaves and simple syrup in julep cup and muddle gently. Add Bourbon then fill cup with crushed ice. Stir gently yet firmly until you see a hard frost on the cup. Garnish with mint and serve with paper or metal straw.
